Planning Is Going Strong for Our 60th 4th of July Celebration--The Biggest and Best Yet!

This year marks our 60th Anniversary as the Jefferson Township Ruritan--no easy feat for a small, rural club to remain active for well beyond 1/2 a century! The men who started the club were very dedicated to making the community a good place for people to live and raise their families...we still abide by that dedication.

We are busily planning our special anniversary with some very special events for our guests at the multi-day celebration. As always, we will have the big parade, the great barbeque chicken and rib dinners, the rides, and lots of events in the arena area.

Be sure to keep tuned in as our plans unfold!

Would you like to become a member of the club? We certainly welcome you! Just see any Ruritan member or contact us at jeffersontownshipinruritan@gmail.com.  You can also leave a message on our Facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/jeffersontwpruritan/.

ANNUAL SENIORS' CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

Thanks to all who made the Jefferson Township Ruritan Christmas Luncheon a success! The dining room of the Otwell United Methodist Church looked lovely; the smells coming from the kitchen were inviting--over 100 meals were picked up or delivered along with 60+ friends visiting and have lunch together in the dining room.

We so appreciate the kindness and generosity of all those who work diligently, donate food, and deliver the meals throughout the township to make the beginning of the Christmas season very enjoyable for our seniors!

Annual Appreciation and Recognition Supper Held August 8, 2016

The 4th of July celebration might have been a rainy mess, but the spirit of community was sunny along with the outside weather as many from Jefferson Township joined together with food and fellowship during the annual Appreciation and Recognition supper held at the Community Center Dining Room. Sandler's Catering fixed a great meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salad and bread. The dessert was none other than Charlie's famous homemade ice cream.
Following the supper, several in attendance were recognized and honored including this year's parade grand marshall, Doug Walters. Also honored were our two scholarship winners, Ashley Harris and Kaylee Gray.
Many thank yous were read from various groups including the 4-H council and the Friends of Otwell for donations from the Ruritan.
The September 17 event is now in its first phases of advertisement and discussions were held about work schedules in the concession stand.
A menu schedule for 2017 was passed around to members to volunteer food for the meetings throughout the year.

Community Service at Its Best...Saving a School

The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind for this little town. Normally, we would be spending our time getting ready for the 4th of July celebration. The homemade ice cream equipment will be pulled out, cleaned up, and put to work here near the end of the week; the bleachers at the arena checked, touched up, and made ready for the crowds to come and enjoy tractor/truck pulls and the demo derby. Schedules are being prepared for kitchen help for the big crowd we'll be feeding on the 4th. And the list goes on...

And then, in the midst of this, it was announced that our one and only school in town is to be shuttered at the  end of the 2015-16 school year.

That's enough to stop the busiest of us in our tracks.

So, we have re-grouped.

The planning goes on full steam ahead for a tremendously fun July 2-3-4 celebration. And, in the meantime, many Ruritan members along with townsfolk of all ages have banded together and formed committees to keep this school going long after the proposed deadline.

So, to anyone reading this blog, please say a little prayer for our town--make it a prayer of thanks. We're eternally grateful each day that we have a town where we, Ruritan members or not, practice the creed of "Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service".

And, if you get a chance, come on by for some good food and fellowship on July 2-3-4!
